Education
Published: October 1, 2008 Updated: October 9, 2008 When I did not have graduate degree, I used to think I would be wiser, and more skillful when I have it. In myself, I do not see that wisdom grown with degree. What makes people wiser? I know there are a lot of factors that impact it. And education is one of the most important factor in it. I am doubting this proposition. In this case my definition for education is formal education . What I am sharing with you is that if you want to be wiser, formal education is not only the route for it. Or in another aspect, I am challenging the education system, that is supposed to increase our knowledge, skill, and attitude. Conceptually we have forgotten
the middle path between what we want to achieve, and how we want to achieve
it. Our way of achieving our goal(strategy) should be correct as well,
and at the same time we should be moving toward what we want to achieve.
No matter how right way we follow, if we completely fail what we want
to achieve, we have to critically examine the path we have taken. That's
exactly I am feeling now about American public school education. Look
the test score of American kids, we are behind than many countries. My
educated guess is that if we compare the priority and comforts the American
kids have, that is non the second in the world. Should not we reinforce
the value of hard work? I think the duration of personal study and the
load of homework in America is very low in compare to many other countries.
Every actor is focussing more on "political correctness" than
with the overall goal of education. The goal for parenting and education
should be to grow the positive, honest, hardworking, more knowledgeable,
and skillful a new generation. The path we should take is to encourage
to achieve those goals. Instead, we misinterpret this path, and to be
politically correct, our focus has been if the children are getting enough
enjoyment. No homework on Friday! Do you think we mostly go on vacation
in each Friday. No, maybe, for we working people, weekend homework is
better because many of us can manage some hours to teach our kids. |
